What to Expect From Consumer Electronic Show (CES) in 2016
The year’s first major electronics event is just around the corner.
It’s the start of a new year and we’re all set for the first major electronics show in the world – the Consumer Electronics Show (CES) held in Las Vegas.
This year’s event does not focus on smartphone and mobility for a change. Instead, you get to witness the future of technology in the fields of virtual reality, and smart home automation, among others. It’s true that CES has lost its sheen over the years, but definitely not its glamour. So here’s what the expected line-up might look like this year.
Virtual Reality Like Never Before
Jonny Quest has been to the virtual-reality world much before than anyone else in the world. He might just be a cartoon character of yesteryears, but 2016 is pegged to be the year when VR will take main stage.
CES 2016 is expected to bring about VR products for consumers from noted brands like Samsung, Sony, HTC, Facebook, and Oculus Rift. Most of these VR devices should end up on store shelves this year, hopefully.
We’ve tried and tested affordable VR devices like the Google Cardboard, OnePlus Cardboard VR among others, but it’ll be interesting to see if the world is ready for affordable VR devices that are high on quality as well.
Netflix to India!
It’s time India got the taste of uncensored, latest television series streamed online on mobile phones. Yes, Netflix, the popular online streaming platform, could make its Indian debut announcement at the Consumer Electronics Show (CES) 2016, Las Vegas this week. The service will be offered to consumers in the coming months. We’ll know more about it at the Netflix keynote on 6 January, Wednesday.
Wearable Like Never Before
Fitbit is hosting an event to showcase its 2016 range of wearables, but beyond that, we’re expecting to catch the glimpse of their woman-friendly gadgets. Health is set to retain its importance in the wearable world, which could signal the birth of new gadgets that sync-and-mix.
Google Glass is set for an overhaul (not at the CES), and one expects to see similar tech being consumed by start-ups from across the globe. Pet wearables are also set to feature at the CES 2016. Let’s see how crazy things can get this year.
Devices For Smarter Homes
Prime Minister Narendra Modi had spoken of his dream of getting Indian smart cities up and running by 2020. That may not matter right now for brands like Samsung, and LG who’re gearing up to announce a stream of new smart home solutions at the CES this year. Some exciting stuff to look forward to this week.
Lots of TVs
4K or Ultra high definition was the big thing for the television industry in 2015 and this year, it’s time for 5K, or even 8K to take over the world of TVs. Can things get any bigger than 110-inch TVs? LG, Samsung, Sony, and Panasonic are some who’ll take over the TV industry at CES 2016.
