In an attempt to provide stiff competition to food delivery apps like Zomato and Swiggy, cab-hailing provider Uber has launched its very own food delivery app in India called UberEATS.

The service is available only in Mumbai for now, but the company has said that they plan to make the service available in other parts of the country very soon.

UberEATS is a stand-alone application available on iOS and Play Store. The app is not a part of the Uber taxi service app.

UberEATS was started in 2014 as a small delivery pilot in Los Angeles, and launched as a separate application in Toronto in December 2015. In the past 18 months, it has grown incredibly fast, and is now a stand-alone app available in 26 countries and 78 cities around the globe, including India.

The company plans to make food deliveries via motor bikes. The fact that they have started off the service only in Mumbai is quite puzzling, but the company’s India spearhead believes this to be the perfect start.

Mumbai is home to a booming food industry with a vibrant food culture, offering both global and local cuisines. The introduction of UberEATS in India, with Mumbai as the first city, is a major step in our global expansion and showcases our commitment to the region.
