For what might have seemed some very difficult few minutes for Twitterati, micro-blogging website and app Twitter went down in some parts of Europe, US and Japan on Tuesday, 17 April.

The website, that seemed to have crashed for some people in India as well, is now back online.

According to reports, the website went offline at around 7:20 pm IST, then came back online at 7:28 pm, then went back offline at 7:31 pm, and then finally came back online at around 8:05 pm.

Some of the parts that were affected by the Twitter outage.

The reason behind the outage is not known yet.

Users trying to log on to the website were shown the following message:

"Something is technically wrong... Thanks for noticing—we're going to fix it up and have things back to normal soon."

The Down Detector website, which is used to track websites and services which go offline, showed that more than 5,000 people complained about the outage.

Twitter Support was prompt in responding to the problem and confirmed in a tweet from its official Twitter Support account that the website was back online.
