After rumours of Reliance working on a Jio 4G-enabled feature phone did the rounds over the past couple of weeks, we’ve finally got a face to put to the reports.

Multiple news publications have been tipped off with this picture of a supposed Jio feature phone, that Reliance could announce in the coming months.

Is this the Jio feature phone then? (Photo Courtesy: Fonearena)

As you can see above, the phone has four Jio buttons: MyJio, Jio TV, Jio Music and Jio Cinema, which are nothing but the apps that are available to Jio users on Android and iOS.

The new leak appears to confirm, at least partially, reports that emerged in 2016 of Jio’s VoLTE-supported phone being able to access the internet and make calls, but not equipped with a touchscreen display.

In all probability, Jio will be bundling data/calls with these phones, making them affordable for everyone. It remains to be seen if Jio can actually offer a phone with usable hardware as well as software.

The possibility of enabling a feature phone with 4G still leaves us with a lot of questions, but if anyone has the capacity to pull this off, it’s got to be Reliance with its never-ending financial backing.

Either way, we’d prefer to take this with a pinch of salt, and wait for the company’s announcement about the product, if one is forthcoming.
