A new keyboard that directly integrates search functions is Google’s latest addition to iOS devices, which was announced on 12 May.

‘Creatively’ termed the “GBoard”, the nifty little button found on the upper left corner of the keyboard allows users to conduct web searches for anything from images to locations, even GIFs and Emojis without moving out of the keyboard. The results can easily be pasted onto any text box.

According to Android Authority, the new keyboard is similar to Google’s Android keyboard with its swipe typing and word prediction, but takes it up a notch with the inclusion of the direct search.

The feature is US-only for now so rest of the world who owns iOS devices will have to wait and watch.

The GBoard got a warm welcome from users, who took to social media to express their thoughts. However, many were concerned whether their battery and phone performance would be affected by it.

If only Google could come up with better names that matched the awesomeness of their technology!
