Thanks to Reliance Jio, India’s internet consumption on mobile is the second largest in the world, only behind – surprise, surprise – Nigeria. That, and the impact that free internet has had on people watching videos (Netflix and chilling), and listening to music online gets a special mention.

2017’s report showcases India as an emerging Internet superpower, even though only 27% of the country’s population has access to internet right now.

The cost of internet per GB has also seen a big drop since 2016 (especially after Jio came into the picture), and currently, Indian consumers are said to be paying Rs 21 on an average to use internet.

Here’s all the tidbits from the report that talk about the digital/internet scenario in the country.

The key highlights show that localised content is more in demand than English content. Less people are watching shows on television, and the gradual migration might take place by 2018.
