The first half of the hearing saw Zuckerberg apologise for the mistakes made in 2015 when Facebook went easy on data-sharing policies. He also apologised for a range of problems, from lack of data protection to Russian agents using Facebook to influence US elections.

Some of the highlights of last night’s hearing involved Zuckerberg talking about a paid version of Facebook where the users will be offered more stringent data privacy tools.

He was also very vocal about Facebook’s work with evolved artificial intelligence tools that will be embedded in the social media network to track hate speech and take down harmful content from the website.
