The recent developments in the Net Neutrality case in India seem to have dumbfounded the Silicon Valley folks. The Telecom Regulatory Authority of India (TRAI) gave its verdict in support of Net Neutrality that effectively puts Facebook’s Free Basics future in jeopardy.

And now, one of Facebook’s board of directors and Silicon Valley venture capitalist (VC), Marc Andreessen has slammed India for its lack of understanding on the matter. Here is the tweet that enraged India.

The statement, considered disrespectful by many, perhaps highlights Marc’s difficulty in understanding Indian sentiments. Marc categorically mentioned India’s colonial history and claims that India’s stance on Net Neutrality bears the burden of her colonial past, which he claims will end up causing an economic catastrophe. The term anti-colonialism has been strongly objected by Twitteratis in India and here’s what they had to say to Marc on his comment.

There are however, a few like Benedict Evans, who came out in support of Marc’s stance on Net Neutrality. Unsurprisingly, Evans works in Marc’s firm.

The hotly debated topic has seen many different opinions and its safe to say to that neither Andreessen nor Zuckerberg are pleased with the TRAI verdict.

As things stand, the tweet has been deleted from Marc’s Twitter account. Many people have been blocked and Andreessen has concluded the matter with this tweet.
