Indian Mobile Congress 2017: What We Saw At the Event
Some of the gizmos we saw at the Indian Mobile Congress 2017, from Nokia to BSNL, and what they have to offer.
The first ever Indian Mobile Congress held at Pragati Maidan in Delhi witnessed major telecom operators like Reliance Jio, Airtel and Vodafone showcasing their prowess in 5G technology and how they are looking to transform India’s telecommunication network as a strong contender in the global communication forum.
Virtual reality, artificial intelligence and Internet of Things (IOT) were the cream of the crop at the event. But, apart from all the high-end stuff we also ran into some gizmos and gadgets at the Indian Mobile Congress.
LG Ki7 Smartphone
LG launched their budget phone – the K7i, at the event that comes with a ‘Mosquito Away Technology’. You heard that right, a smartphone that makes mosquitoes go away!
It emits sound waves at an ultra-sonic frequency which keeps mosquitoes away. There is a speaker grill at the back which emits the sound waves.
This is the first of its kind smartphone in India and has been modestly priced at Rs 7,999.
The LG K7i comes with a 5-inch display and a quad-core processor coupled with 2GB RAM. It comes with a 8-megapixel rear camera and 2,500mAh battery.
BSNL Satellite Phone Service
BSNL launched their satellite-based mobile phone services for voice call and SMS facility. The BSNL Satphone has been launched to keep people connected in the remotest areas.
The service was initially being offered to government agencies but will now be available to the general public for use.
BSNL uses the services of the International Mobile Satellite Organisation (INMARSAT) to provide GPRS sevices via satellite across the globe. The BSNL Satphone will offer 24x7 connectivity wherever you go.

You need to be in open spaces (not under a roof) to get a proper signal. The price for the Satphone starts at Rs 70,000 and call charges start at Rs 45 per minute (local) and Rs 265 per minute for international calls.
Nokia OZO Camera
Nokia, not HMD, is still alive and is still making hardware just so you should know. At the Indian Mobile Congress we got a glimpse of Nokia’s 360-degree stereoscopic camera.
The camera comes with 8 lenses, each of them with a 195-degree field of view. It shoots videos at 30 frames per second and comes with 500GB storage.
A Smartphone with a Screen on the Back
You have already seen smartphones with dual-edge screen and also dual-screen on the front. There was a special gizmo we spotted at the India Mobile Congress at the MediaTek stall. A smartphone with a screen at the back!
The Meizu Pro 7 Plus comes with a 1.9-inch AMOLED panel at the back which is also a touch screen. This is a dual-camera phone and comes with a deca-core MediaTek Helio X30 processor.
However, the phone will not be coming to India anytime soon. Yes, even I am disappointed.
