Huawei was asked to stop using Android, because of pressure on Google by the US government.

While this has been partially relaxed for 90 days, the Chinese mobile giant isn’t likely to be waiting anymore and is reportedly putting finishing touches to its Android alternative mobile platform.

The software platform, according to reports on the internet will be called Ark OS and for the first time, we’ve got a glimpse into Huawei’s rival to Android for its mobile devices. This report has even quoted another publication, that has managed to get hold of the first purported screenshots of the Ark OS from Huawei.

The photos, according to the report, are part of the software patent filed by Huawei to the German Patent and Trademark Office, which also includes the name Huawei Ark OS for the operating system.

Photos of what the rumoured mobile OS from Huawei might look like.

The interface, as you can see here, covers the basic elements that Huawei will need to run on its software. One photo shows how apps will look on Huawei’s app store, and the other three are reference to the overall look and feel of the software in general.

Even here, you can see the colour code in use, how the font will look on the interface and what kind of permissions an app will be asking from a user. Fair to say, Huawei will use inspiration from the Android-based EMui to build its mobile OS outside of the Android ecosystem.

But the thing is, even if Huawei is ready with its Android challenger, how is it going to convince developers to port or create apps for its own platform.

This formula of moving away from Android has been tried by giants like Samsung previously, but nothing has ever come out of it for the South Korean brand, or anyone else for that matter.

Either ways, Huawei has said it earlier this week that its rumoured Ark OS won’t ship on devices before end of 2019 in China and mid-2020 in other parts of the world. Will it be similar to the photos we’ve come across? With patent filings, one can never be sure of anything, which is why, we’ll take all these details with a pinch of salt for now.
