Why Designer Jony Ive Leaving Apple May Not be Shocking After All

Iconic designer and personality Jony Ive is finally leaving Apple, after spearheading various products from the company and giving them a unique identity over the years. The development was first shared few days back, which came as a surprise to quite a few people across the world.

However, it seems his departure may not have been a shock after all, as the company has reportedly been preparing for his exist over the past few years.

This has been pointed out in a Wall Street Journal (WSJ) report on Monday, which clearly mentions that Apple’s recent shift from making products to handling operations, might not have gone down well with Ive and his support staff.

The change in approach for design at Apple has taken a dramatic turn, ever since Steve Jobs handed over the reigns of the company to Tim Cook. And this is probably where Ive saw his role at Apple slowly, but gradually diminish.

The report even suggests that Ive, a pivotal part of designing a lot of Apple products, became dispirited with Cook’s lack of involvement in the product development process. This is kind of illustrated by Cook not taking a look at new products before it launches for the consumers.

For the past 30 years Ive has been the sole focus point for designing of Apple products but with this exit, Apple is reportedly bringing not one but two people to spearhead the design revolution for the future at the Cupertino-based giant.

Be it the first series of Mac PCs, or many iPhones over the years, the iconic iPod, Ive has been the fulcrum around which Apple and its products have come to breathe in a crowded tech space. With his exist, Apple needs to reboot its design focus, with new people at the helm, but with the same approach that has served them well for decades.
