Google Now Offers Translate, Speak & Search Through Lens on Mobile
Google is letting mobile users in India translate text, as well as search for content scanned through the Lens app.
Google on Thursday, 19 September, announced that languages like Hindi, Telugu, Tamil and Marathi are now accessible through its Lens platform on mobile devices in the country.
The search giant, hosting the Google for India event in Delhi made this India-centric announcement, where focus has been to reach the remote corners of the country, where people converse in multiple languages.
Google claims that over 750 million people are unable to read and hence the search giant is also integrating Translate, Speak (through voice assistant support) and Search through the Lens app on mobile.
Lens is a platform that is available through the mobile camera for most Android devices, which means that millions of people can make use of the newly added features.
Translating languages is an intrinsic part of how people converse across the country, especially when they’re travelling to remote parts. This is where Lens can ensure you don’t get lost with signs that are in a different language that you can’t read.
With support for limited Indic languages for now, Google’s Lens team will be gradually developing more languages to be integrated to search, speak and translate. This way, Google hopes more people in India can make better use of the internet on their smartphones.
