Google Drive Now Called Google One, Adds Storage Sharing Feature
Google Drive cloud storage gets branded as Google One and you now get to share storage with friends.
Google is rebranding and overhauling its existing Google Drive cloud storage service for business and consumers. Google Drive is now called Google One and will gradually roll out to existing paid users of Google Drive across the globe.
Drive is one of the affordable storage options available in the market, with others like Dropbox, Apple iCloud and even Amazon in the fray. For users in India, Google is sending out mails, informing them about the change, with some benefits likely to be offered in the coming months.
Google One also gets a neat mobile app that lists out account details and points out which family member of yours is hogging most of your cloud storage.
What benefits do you get with Google One?
As you can see, Google One is mostly looking to change the way Google Drive has been run, into a more storage-focused service. Paid users get 100GB and above of storage on Drive, and that’ll remain the case with Google One also. You can use this space to store Photos, Mails with documents and Videos too.
The family/friend sharing is the latest addition, and you can monitor who’s got hold of your storage. Also, Google intends to give discounts or offers for various services that are available through its platform. This is mostly available to paid Drive users in the United States for now but expect them to reach India very soon.
Last, but not the least, Google provides direct access to its experts for any queries users might have about storage space or other features.
In August, Google also announced that Whatsapp messages can be backed up on Google Drive without eating into a user’s allotted storage space. However, it’s also worth pointing out the messages stored on Drive are not encrypted.
