Facebook is coming up with a petitions feature, for people to be able to create a petition, tag relevant public officials or organisations, and get people to support their cause.

The new feature will also let people interact within the petition page and create events and fundraisers.

Facebook is calling the feature ‘Community Action Feature’ – a way for “people to advocate for changes in their communities and partner with elected officials and government agencies on solutions,” reports TechCrunch.

There are, however, concerns about this feature being misused, with fringe groups being so aggressive on social media platforms.

It might make it easier for them to gather support for offensive or even dangerous issues and pass them off as legitimate using fake information.

Facebook will reportedly use “a combination of user flagging, proactive algorithmic detection, and human enforcers for making sure the feature is not misused.”

This move is being seen as Facebook’s attempt to replace platforms like Change.org.
