The obsession with selfies is fast becoming a concern. It is not just the fact that taking selfies could be termed as a mental disorder, or a sign of narcissism, but the very fact that it is now leading to people’s death has become worrisome.

The incident of three college students in India who ended up drowning as they went into deeper waters to get a better picture for their selfie only shows how troublesome this new fad is becoming.

The students, who were part of a group of 10 teenagers, had gone to celebrate their friend’s birthday party, according to the DNA.

Post lunch, the birthday boy along with two other friends, decided to venture into Uran lake to click selfies.

However, after a few clicks, they decided to go further into the lake for better pictures but got caught in deeper waters, lost control and ended up drowning.

Another incident that took place at the start of the year was the death of another three young men who were killed by a speeding train as they posed for daring “selfies”.

The men, who were aged between 20 and 22, were on their way to see the Taj Mahal.

However, these incidents are not just common to India but have also been reported across the globe.

In April, a 17-year-old girl plunged 30 feet to her death as she climbed onto a railway bridge to take a selfie from a bridge in the Russian city of Saint Petersburg.

Teenager Xenia Ignatyeva was a month short of her 18th birthday when she fell, and was hit by 1,500 volts as she was electrocuted when she tried to grab live wires.

Last year, a Polish couple died after falling from a cliff in Portugal’s Cabo da Roca, while trying to take selfies with their children on the edge of a cliff.
