Keeping India’s borders safe is a daunting task. Not all areas can be secured with a metal mesh fencing. Not all areas can be manned at all times. That’s where tech comes to the rescue.

Meet Tushar Chhabra, co-founder and CEO of Cron Systems, a Gurugram-based startup, that has developed and deployed high-tech security systems along the Indian border. There are different security systems that the company has developed, but the most interesting is the Kavach system.

The Kavach system consists of a series of fence posts that communicate with each other using multi-data beams. These are placed about 200 feet apart all along the border. The beams between the fences are invisible to the naked eye.

These fence posts have a wireless network to operate on, doing away with the need for cables. They also have up to 8-hours of battery backup in case of a power-cut. When an intrusion is detected, they sound an alarm and relay the information to a central control unit at the security post. The soldier on duty can then assess the threat visually, or send out drones or rovers to inspect the post. Cron builds these as well.

To test out the effectiveness of the Cron Kavach system, we tried intruding upon their headquarters in Gurugram to meet Tushar Chhabra. And yes, it worked.
