Hackers have reportedly taken the backdoor route into IIM’s CAT site and leaked the results of 2015. The leaked scores were allegedly sent to the students who appeared for the CAT 2015 exams, held in late-November last year.

Reports emerging on education forums like Pagalguy.com brought this development into attention. Students were angry, and understandably so, upon getting their results even before the official word was out. It’s been suggested that hackers (most probably from the student clan) have dug their way into the Indian Institute of Management (IIM)‘s CAT site and seemingly filtered results.

The IIM website had not officially declared the time of the results until the reports of the leak went viral.

The IIM administrators decided to shut down the source of the leak, by closing the link of the page which was sending the results to the students via SMS.

Later this evening, the student got a revised (and official) message from IIM that, he says reflect his expectations. Now that the official results are out, things have definitely become calmer. But bigger questions remain unanswered.

We’ve Been Here Before, Many Times!

When an establishment like IIM gets hacked, you’re bound to doubt the ecosystem within which they’re operating, which, quite frankly, seems outdated. This isn’t the first time when CAT has borne the brunt of hackers leaking vital details like question papers.

In 2013, CAT exam question papers went public which found many takers (for sure), as well haters who cribbed about the problems in system. Episodes of leaks are a common sight in India and dare we say, these can make or break a student’s future, depending on which side of the coin you sit.
