From Dubsmash To Porn

Reports of Indian women’s Dubsmash videos being turned into dirty talk and pornographic material have kicked up fervent discussions about privacy and cyber security issues.

In Tamil Nadu, a woman’s clip was circulated on WhatsApp which purportedly showed her talking dirty and moaning, according to a leading daily. It later emerged that the woman had earlier created a Dubsmash clip with dialogue of a Tamil film and shared it publicly.

Dubsmash videos, when created and shared, can be easily downloaded through numerous websites, browser plug-ins and software.

Once downloaded, these videos can be re-edited with pornographic audio or voice over, as Cyber Security expert Saket Modi, explains in the video below.

Webcam Becomes Peeping Tom

Indiviral recently released a short film (watch below) starring a couple posing as husband and wife. The film, in which, the woman is asked to remove her top, addresses the subject of webcam hacking.

Hackers can use webcams even when they are not in use. Child International advises in a BBC article that users should disconnect webcams or cover them when not in use.

Hackers can get into a computer using malicious software or malware – called a remote-access Trojan or Rat – spread through unsuspecting links, messages or infected files. Such malware can be used by a hacker to access the victim’s webcam.

The pictures and videos captured by the hackers are shared on online forums and image hosting sites.

Using a strong antivirus software, you can be notified whenever your webcam is being used.
