It looks like Apple is having trouble with shipment and production of the iPhone X. The latest and the first iPhone with an edge-to-edge screen has gone out of stock, just a few minutes after it was available for pre-order.

The iPhone X pre-order went live on Flipkart and Amazon in India on 27 October. But to everyone’s surprise, the device went out of stock before anyone could even make their bookings.

Unlike the Apple US website, the Indian edition does not allow you to see the pre-order option, which means your only way to book the iPhone X is via shopping sites like Flipkart and Amazon.

With Apple not taking pre-orders, you don’t have much of a choice.

As you can see, here’s what Flipkart’s product listing for iPhone X looked like, five minutes after the official pre-orders had gone live. The listings returned at around 12:53 pm on 27 October, but vanished again a few minutes later.

We noticed that stock availability was limited to select cities. We tried feeding multiple area pin codes from across the country, but only found the product available for metro cities like Delhi, Bengaluru and Mumbai. Even Kolkata and Chennai (as reported by people on Twitter) didn’t make the cut.

But Flipkart isn’t the only one to repot a blackout, Amazon’s Jio offering for the iPhone X didn’t make the cut either, showing up as unavailable.

Amazon India was no different in this regard.

However, much to our surprise, Reliance Jio via Jio.com is still taking the pre-orders, offering up to 10k in cash back. The telco is also giving you the chance to opt for monthly plan with 70 percent buyback after 12 months.

Jio is also taking pre-orders for the iPhone X.

Nobody knows what’s going on with Apple right now. What made the pre-order of iPhone X go belly up out of the blue? Does this mean the stock constraint rumours were true, or has Flipkart and Amazon hit a technical bump, as Jio continues to let consumers book the device.

iPhone X is pegged to be Apple’s path to the future of smartphones, with its latest Face ID technology, paired with OLED display. The phone comes in two variants this year, with 64GB priced at Rs 89,000 in India, and the 256GB model at a whopping Rs 1,02,000.
