Amazon Sues Over 1,000 Users for Fake Reviews on Website

E-commerce giant, Amazon, is suing more than 1,100 users for writing fake reviews on its website, reports the Times of India.
A lawsuit was filed against 1,114 alleged fake reviewers, who were tarnishing brand reputation with “false, misleading and inauthentic” reviews, according to a GeekWire report.
Apparently, the defendants offer false review services for as little as $5 (Rs 323) on Fiverr.com. Amazon has a list of the Fiverr account names and is seeking a court judgement to identify the people behind them.
Amazon said it conducted an extensive investigation, which included purchasing fake customer reviews on Fiverr. The ‘reviewers’ promised five-star ratings and offered to let the purchasers write their own reviews. Amazon has sued several websites for selling fake reviews in the recent past.
The legal action reads: “Amazon is bringing this action to protect its customers from this misconduct, by stopping defendants and uprooting the ecosystem in which they participate.”
