If you’re a 90s kid, you’ve definitely played strategy games on the PC – Age of Mythology, Warcraft, or the most addictive of them all, Age of Empires.
These games had us playing for hours, and there was certain pleasure in building armies and conquering kingdoms.
It’s been more than 10 years since Microsoft released the last Age of Empires game, Age of Empires 3, and now it’s back ready to roll out the fourth iteration of the ever-addictive real-time strategy (RTS) game, Age of Empires 4.
There hasn’t been any official announcement on when the game would release, though Microsoft has released a trailer of the game. It’s pretty clear that this Relic Entertainment game would be a Windows 10 exclusive.
The first Age of Empires was released in 1997. The earlier versions of the game were based on different civilisations battling it out for territory and power, with the battles being restricted to one civilisation of a particular period.
While you wait for the release of Age of Empires 4, Microsoft is releasing a 4k remastered version of the original Age of Empires, dubbed Age of Empires: Definitive Edition, on 19 October.
So, RTS gamers, get ready for long, sleepless nights again. AOE is coming back!
