Apple introduced the new iOS 12 at the 2018 Worldwide Developers’ conference. One of the features introduced for the iPhone X was the Memoji. The Memoji lets you create your own personalised animated emoji or Animoji, which was introduced as a new feature in the iPhone X.

The Memoji is like a blend of iPhone X’s popular Animoji and Bitmoji (where you create avatars of yourself).

The Memoji feature will allow users to create their own detailed avatars, using iPhone X’s TrueDepth face camera that captures 3D information for Face ID authentication and Animoji. It can very well become a millennial’s favourite pastime.

Here are the customisable options available with Memojis:

  • Skin colour (layers of freckles)
  • Hair color and style
  • Eye color and shape
  • Head shape
  • Ear shape
  • Nose and lip shape (and lip color)
  • Jewelry
  • Facial hair
  • Eyewear (frames and lenses)
  • Headwear (hats, burkas, towels, caps)

How Memojis Work

Here is how you can create your own Memoji on iPhone X

  • Open the Messages app
  • Tap on the Animoji button (monkey face)
  • Tap the + sign in the middle left portion of your screen
  • Messages will guide you through customising your Memoji
  • Tap Done in the top right hand corner to complete and use your Memoji

There are plenty of customising options listed below. Here’s how you can set up Indian characters as well.

1. Skin Tone

The Memoji will allow users to choose from a wide range of skin tones, which are further customisable with a slider, set it to the perfect Indian skin tone you prefer from the shade card and you’re ready to go.

2. Hairstyles and Headgear

After choosing the skin tone, one comes to choosing hairstyle which again, gives a lot of options to choose from. One can find all kinds of hairstyles within the given options in any colour. Apple has even given an option to add highlights to hairstyles as well.

The feature also gives you options for choosing the appropriate headgear. Available options include caps, hats, turbans, etc. So it has got even Sikhs and Muslims covered.

Users can also opt for customising the head shape of their Memoji (changes age and chin). One can make a custom face look like anything they want by choosing among the different types of eyes, ears, lips and nose options.

5. Nose and Lips

There are different types of nose and lips options for you to choose the one that looks the most like you. One can also choose the lip colour.

6. Ears

One can choose different types of ear shapes and sizes. The Memoji creator also gives you an option to choose ear accessories for your own custom Animoji.

As Indians are known for their extravagant jewellery, this feature has us covered for that also as it offers a variety of earrings for your Memoji to wear.

7. Facial Hair

After the face is set, you go on to choose the kind of facial hair you want on your Animoji , if you want. Facial hair lets you pick from a number of beard styles.

Often Muslims and Sikhs have long beards and the feature gives them everything they need for their Memoji to look exactly like them. Even facial colour is customisable.

8. Eyewear

After facial hair comes the option of choosing eyewear where you can choose the kind of eyewear your Memoji wears. You can also choose the colour of the lens as well as the frame of the glasses.

If you play around with the option well enough, you can make your Memoji look as Indian as you can.
