Cities like Delhi, Kolkata and Bengaluru turn into a breeding ground for pollutants every year as soon as autumn hits the country. The declining air quality has left the citizens with no choice rather than to take precautionary steps to ensure they at least keep their homes devoid of bad air.

Sometimes it’s very difficult for the middle-class to invest in high-end and expensive air purifiers which is why it’s obvious they’ll turn to more economical options.

So, here’s a list of air purifiers under Rs 15,000 you can consider.

Philips Air Purifier AC 4025/10

Philips Air Purifier AC 4025/10

The Philips Air Purifier AC is one of the quietest purifiers in this lot. It also switches to lower activity level and fan speed which minimises energy consumption. It has been successfully tested against inhalable particles of size smaller than 2.5um (micrometre).

It’s just 4.5-kilograms, which means it’s portable and can be moved from one room to the other very easily. This purifier is recommended for rooms smaller than or equal to 300 square feet.

The Philips Air Purifier AC 4025/10 is available at Rs 13,999 and can be purchased from multiple online e-tail stores.

Tefal Intense Pure Air XL 80

Tefal Intense Pure Air XL 80

The Tefal Intense Pure Air XL 80 might not be one of the most portable air purifiers at 7.5 kilograms, but it sports an elegant design that would look decent in any corner of the room. It does keep a check on the decibel levels especially while Sleep Mode is on.

The Tefal Intense Pure Air XL has a 310 m3/h (cubic meter per hour) clean air delivery rate that covers a room as large as 821 square feet. It comes with a technology called NanoCaptur filter that adds another filtration layer. A red light indicator has been placed on the console to notify users if the air quality in the room is poor. As the air is purified, the colour turns blue.

The Tefal Intefal Intense Pure Air XL 80 carries a market price of almost Rs 30,000 but can be purchased online for as low as Rs 13,999.

It also works against odour from cigarettes or other foul smelling agents. This air purifier comes equipped with 3-dimensional air flow technology to capture majority of the dust particles that float around 30 cms near the floor.

Eureka Forbes Aeroguard Mist

Eureka Forbes Aeroguard Mist 56-watt purifier.

Eureka Forbes is mostly known for its expertise in vacuum cleaners and water purifying systems. Recently, it has ventured into air purifiers and the Eureka Forbes Aeroguard Mist seems to be a good option to consider in the sub-Rs 15,000 bracket.

Since it doesn’t come with a complicated control panel it is easy to use. It is a tad louder in sleep mode compared to other purifiers in this category. It sports a very simple and portable design.

The Eureka Forbes purifier is ideal for rooms with a size of 300-350 square feet and is priced at Rs 12,150.

Xiaomi Mi Purifier 2

And last but not the least is the Xiaomi Mi Purifier 2.

This air purifier was launched for Rs 12,999 but has taken a steep price drop over the months and now comes in at just Rs 8,999.

It sports a very simple design and doesn't come with a display (its biggest disadvantage) which mean you'll need an app and Wi-Fi to connect to the air purifier. It's ideal to be kept in a room as big as 400 square feet and can clean up the same area in almost 10 minutes.

It uses a three-layer HEPA (High-Efficiency particulate arrestance) technology filter to remove the PM 2.5 size of particles and also filter out other impurities from the air.

In Auto Mode, the air purifier changes its fan speed according to the quality of the air.
