OnePlus is doing it yet again, launching another variant of its 5 series, making it two OnePlus phones for 2017. The rumoured OnePlus 5T will debut later this week, and one expects minor hardware improvements on this one, with the big focus on giving consumers a 18:9 ratio display on a big form size.

So, what can we expect from the OnePlus 5T this week? Here’s a look at what the leaks and rumours have said, so far.

OnePlus 5 with Bezel-less display

OnePlus 5T with edge-to-edge screen could look like this.

Yes, one of the reasons why OnePlus is coming out with the OnePlus 5T (that too just 3 months after the 5 was launched) is simply because that’s what everyone else is making.

Samsung, Apple, Google and even LG among others have taken the 18:9 ratio display approach, so we’re not really surprised that OnePlus wants to join the gang, but not sure how many of those OnePlus 5 are pleased to see it happening this year itself.

The OnePlus 5T is likely to get a 6-inch 2K display with 2560x1440 pixels resolution, but the 18:9 ratio (trimming down the bezels) could be the highlight feature of the upcoming OnePlus phone.

The use of display real estate could also push the fingerprint scanner to the back, unless OnePlus has found a way to integrate that within the screen.

Same Hardware as the 5

Does the OnePlus 5 look like the iPhone 7 Plus?

OnePlus 5 is already powered by the latest Snapdragon 835 processor, with 6/8GB RAM. So, when the OnePlus 5T rolls out, you’re getting no different. The hardware features are expected to be the same. We don’t see OnePlus bumping up its memory to double digits (maybe OnePlus 6 could), and 128GB for storage is more than enough.

Pete Lau, CEO, OnePlus has already confirmed that the 5T won’t support wireless charging, and retains audio jack as well.

Dual cameras for quality Low-light

OnePlus 5 offers dual cameras at the back.

Same optics from the OnePlus 5 expected to be retained. Expect the OnePlus 5T to pack 16-megapixel primary shooter, along with 20-megapixel lens which is claimed to be tele-photo.

We’d like OnePlus to offer optical image stabilisation (OIS) on both the lenses but looks like, OnePlus will only improve the aperture optics of the tele-photo lens to aid better low-light shooting, something that both Carl Pei and Lau have teased recently.

Does the 5T camera better the quality of OnePlus 5? We’ll find out soon.

Battery, Price, Availability and More

OnePlus 5 is one of the phones with dual camera you can buy.

The use of a bigger form size and higher display resolution could force OnePlus to pack a bigger battery on the 5T. In terms of pricing, OnePlus 5T could be slightly costlier than the OnePlus 5, pushing it closer to the 40K bracket.

But if they don’t, then OnePlus 5T could have a good chance of maintaining its position, working out as an improved version of the 5.

OnePlus 5T will be launched in India on 16 November, with its first flash sale lined up for 21 November. The open sales are slotted from 28 November onwards. Stay tuned for live updates, details and more.
