2019 is likely to start with a bang for smartphone nerds, with Nokia expected to launch its first-ever smartphone with five rear cameras much before the date for Mobile World Congress sets in.

We have been hearing about the phone with supposed penta-camera, first in the industry and for the first time this week we’ve probably got our first look at this phone. Serial leakster and renowned tipster Evan Blass via his Twitter handle @evleaks has shared the first visuals of the phone. He’s credited with various other leaks before and most of his revelations have turned out to be true.

Rumours have pegged the phone to be called Nokia 9 Pureview, something which was previously seen with the Lumia 1020 and later Lumia 950 series.

From the looks of it, HMD Global is sticking to its tried-and-tested design formula for the Nokia 9 Pureview, with a glass-textured body becoming evident with the photo given above.

This could also be one of the first phones to launch with Snapdragon 855 in the market, and we expect Nokia to pack the phone heavy on hardware, with up to 8GB RAM and storage options maxing out at 256GB or even more. But it’s hard to deny the highlight of the phone will be the five lenses placed at the back of the phone.

We’ve already seen phones with three and even four rear cameras in 2018 and much to everyone’s surprise, Nokia wants to lead the line with five cameras in 2019. The added interest with the lenses will be the use of Zeiss Optics, which has powered previous Nokia phones like Lumia 1020 which back in the day managed to offer resolution up to 41-megapixel.

The use of a glass body could also imply that the Nokia 9 Pureview will support wireless charging, and running on stock Android version like all the other Nokia phones available in the market this year.

There’ll be a lot of excitement around this device and we’re hopeful that Nokia can surprise one and all with the price tag that’ll set the cat among pigeons in the coming months.
