The Huawei Y9 was launched in October last year and the Chinese smartphone maker has taken its own sweet time to get the device to India. The Huawei Y9 has been very smartly nestled between mid-range and flagship level devices.

The Huawei Y9 has been launched in India for a price tag of Rs 15,990 and here’s a quick look at what this smartphone from Huawei has to offer.

In this price segment the Huawei Y9 is in direct competition with the likes of the Xiaomi Redmi 6 Pro and also the Asus Zenfone Max Pro M2.

Specifications

  • Display: 6.5-inch FHD+
  • Processor: HiSilicon Kirin 710 octa-core
  • RAM: 4GB
  • Storage: 64GB (expandable)
  • Rear camera: 16MP+2MP (f/2.0,f/2.4)
  • Front camera: 13MP+2MP (f/1.8,f/2.4)
  • Battery: 4,000mAh
  • Price: Rs 15,990

What catches our eye first is the large 6.5-inch full HD+ display which in no means looks underwhelming. The 396 pixels per inch LCD display stands shoulder to shoulder with some of the best out there.

The phone packs a 6.5-inch screen.

In terms of ergonomics the phone sports a plastic body and carries a very elegant design. However, it will attract smudges and fingerprints due to the reflective panel at the back.

The Huawei Y9 runs on the HiSilicon Kirin 710 octa-core processor coupled with 6GB of RAM inside. It’s unlikely that this phone would have any trouble in terms of multi-tasking or even running high-end games.

The phone offers 64GB of in-built storage, which can be expanded via a microSD card up to 400GB. It’s perplexing that the Huawei Y9 is still running on Android 8.1 Oreo on top of EMUI 8.2. It would have got some bonus points had it come boxed with the latest Android Pie OS.

In terms of its photography prowess, the Huawei Y9 comes with a dual rear 16+2-megapixel camera while the front supports a dual camera. I can’t comment on the picture quality and performance at the moment, but on paper this looks like a sweet deal.

There’s plenty of battery juice backing this gizmo thanks to a 4,000mAh battery.
