There is an air of freshness about what TVS is doing these days. It’ not been long that the Chennai based company launched their first 300cc+ bike in Indian market, dubbed the Apache 310 RR, and now it’s launched yet another sporty looking mass market motorcycle – the Apache 160 4V.

Over the years, the Apache series has undergone some incremental upgrades, but this time around, TVS has completely revamped the 160cc Apache and given it a new avatar.

Specifications

  • Engine: 159.7 cc, 4-valve
  • Max power: 16.8 bhp(EFI)/ 16.5 (carb)
  • Max torque: 14.8 Nm
  • Transmission: 5-speed
  • Kerb weight: 143 kg
  • LCD instrument cluster
  • Rear monoshock
  • Front & rear disc brakes (optional)
  • Starting price: Rs 81,490 (ex- showroom Delhi)

I am going to be riding the Apache 160 4V in Bengaluru, and will get you a first ride review from the city itself, but first, let’s look at what TVS is offering with this one.

The bike comes with two tyre options, off-road and road

The new Apache 160 4V has been launched in three variants: The EFI (electronic fuel injection), the Carb (carburetor) variant, and there is also an EFI variant with front and rear disc brakes.

The starting price of the carburetor variant with front disc is Rs 81,490, while the carb with front and rear disc variant costs Rs 84,490. The most expensive fuel-injected variant with front and rear disc will set you back Rs 89,990. All these prices at ex-showroom Delhi.
The turn indicators have been inspired from the Apache RTR 200

I like the design of the new Apache 160 4V. It borrows a lot of ergonomics and elements from the new Apache RTR 200 like the headlights, the instrument cluster, and even the turn indicators.

The fuel tank is very sporty, and the extended front shroud accentuate the racing DNA that Apache keep chest thumping about. It sports a similar ‘shotgun’ all-black exhaust as the RTR 200, although for the first time we see a Showa monoshock being introduced into this series.

Coming to what’s running this machine. The new Apache, as the company claims, is the fastest in this segment, with a top speed of 114 kmph (EFI) and 116 kmph (carb).

The 159.7 cc, four-valve, air-cooled engine now pumps out more power at 16.8 bhp on the fuel injection, while the carburetor fitted machine offers 16.5 bhp of power. Both variants offer the same amount of torque at 14.8Nm, and come with a 5-speed gearbox.

TVS claims that the carburetted model can go hit 0-60 kmph in just 4.73 seconds, while the fuel injected version can do the same in 4.8 seconds. Fast enough for a 160cc.

The new TVS motorcycle will be available in three color variants — Blue, Red and Black.

Stay tuned for the first ride review of the new TVS 160 4V. Coming soon.
