‘Impreza’ originates from the Italian word impresa, which means a feat or an achievement. In Polish, ‘Impreza’ means party.
For Subaru, the Impreza has been one of the best-selling models ever, and they unveiled a new one at the New York International Auto Show, along with its 5-doored sibling.
The new Imprezas sport the new design language being followed by Subaru, which still sport the hexagonal grille and the sharp headlamps, but along with a relatively more sculpted body with flowing lines.
Both the Subarus are wider and longer than the outgoing models, and lay down the foundation for Subaru Global Platform, which incorporates a number of different grades of high-strength steel at critical points to make it 70 percent stiffer than the previous Impreza body-shell to help stamp out noise, vibration and harshness.
It will be powered by the 2-litre ‘boxer’ flat four-cylinder engine with direct-fuel-injection which is more powerful – up from 146 to 150 horsepower.
In terms of technology, the car comes loaded with adaptive cruise control, automatic pre-collision braking, lane departure warning and assist, blind spot detection, and rear cross traffic alert, with adaptive headlights, high-beam assist as well as a Harman Kardon sound system.
So, the big question, is it impressive?
The answer is a definite yes. The car is better in almost every way and looks more modern and up to date as compared to its rivals.
