The World Endurance Championship (WEC) and the Le Mans 24 Hours are some of the biggest races that happen throughout the year, and Audi seems set to give it everything it has.

The German automaker has launched the R18, the fastest Audi to ever hit the roads, or tracks in this case.

Slated to race at these events, the R18 has been redesigned from scratch and has almost nothing in common with its predecessor. It also gets a battery-operated hybrid drive system and a new safety cell.

The V6 TDI engine has been revised too, and the company claims that the car can produce over 1000 horsepower. That figure is astonishing in itself, but couple that with the extremely light weight of the R18 (875 Kg) and you begin to believe what Audi says, that this is their strongest race car to date.
