According to Ford, the glass is more durable than the traditional glass used in automobiles and is also 30 percent lighter, which saves fuel and improves the car’s handling. The automotive version of the Gorilla Glass has multiple layers for added safety, but it’s half as thick as a traditional windshield.

Gorilla Glass has been used by the consumer electronics industry since 2007.
