Ducati Launches Monster 821 Naked Sports Bike at Rs 9.51 Lakh
The Ducati Monster 821 is a naked sports bike that will compete with the Triumph Street Triple S and Yamaha MT-09.
The Ducati Monster 821 takes the styling of the larger Monster 1200, with the power of a more compact 821cc L-Twin Testastretta engine, which makes for a decent naked sports bike. The pricing, as far as premium motorcycles go, is quite spot on at Rs 9.51 lakh.
Unlike a traditional launch, Ducati decided to launch this bike over Twitter, with questions also taken on the social media network by Ducati India managing director Sergi Canovas.
The Ducati Monster 821 will compete with the Triumph Street Triple S, which is slightly cheaper, and the Yamaha MT-09 that is slightly pricier. It comes in its traditional colours – red, black and yellow (also seen on the Scrambler).
While following the traditional styling of the Monster series bikes, the Monster 821 also incorporates a number of the latest tech. It comes with a twin-beam headlamp with an LED running lamp.
It gets a full-colour TFT instrument panel display that includes the speedometer, tachometer, fuel gauge and tell-tale lights. It comes with three level ABS and three different ride modes – urban, sport and touring, which alters engine behaviour for different riding conditions.
The 821cc, twin-cylinder liquid-cooled engine puts out 108 bhp of power at 9,250 rpm and 86 Nm or torque at 7,750 rpm with a six-speed transmission. The gear shift features a DQS (Ducati Quick Shift) option, available as an accessory, which allows the rider to quickly shift up or down without using the clutch. It also has an eight-level traction control system.
The Ducati 821 will be imported to India as a CBU (completely built unit), and retailed through the seven Ducati dealers around the country. The company expects to have a total of nine dealerships open in 2018.
