2020 Honda City Unveiled in Thailand, Will Come To India Soon
The 2020 Honda City is expected in India in the second half of the year.
Honda has unveiled the fifth-generation Honda City in Thailand. The executive sedan has grown a few millimetres in length, while its design looks inspired by the Honda Civic.
The Honda City has evolved into a larger car with each passing generation. It was first launched in India in 1997, getting a generation update approximately every six years after that.
The updated car gets a thick slab of chrome across the grille and projector LED headlamps that look quite similar to the Honda Civic. The rear gets LED tail-lamps that wrap around the boot, keeping in line with Honda’s new design theme, sort of what you see on the Honda CR-V. The silhouette is more rounded off now, but it gets a sharp crease running the length of the shoulder-line.
The car comes with 15-inch alloy wheels for the Thailand market. Expect similar specs for India as well.
The interior of the Honda City has been completely revamped. The Thai-market car gets an all-black theme, but expect a beige and black combination for India. The car is slightly wider than before, so seating comfort and space seem to have improved.
The dashboard is fairly simple in its layout, which is a move away from the present City or even the Civic’s dashboard. The low-dash height is reminiscent of the first-generation Honda City. The Thai-market car gets knobs for the AC controls. The present generation City has touch-panel AC controls.
There Thai-version of the Honda City gets a 1-litre, turbo-charged petrol motor that puts out 122 PS of power with a CVT automatic transmission. However, for India, expect Honda to offer its 1.5 litre petrol motor in BS-6 guise with a choice of six-speed manual and CVT automatic transmissions. Honda will also continue with its Earth Dreams 1.5 litre diesel engine for the City in BS-6 form.
The 2020 Honda City is expected to be launched in India in the second half of 2020. Expect the car’s prices to go up by about a lakh or so over the current model.
