The new Moto X4 comes with 6GB RAM

Moto X4 First Impressions: Ready To ‘RAM’ the Competition Hard

Talk about getting an upgrade! Lenovo Moto has kicked off 2018 in style with the launch of the upgrade to their X series phones, the Moto X4.

The upgrade means more power, better camera and better ergonomics in this variant. I got to experience the device for a few days and here is my first impression of the Moto X4.

Design & Display

The Moto X4 sports a much more elegant and attractive design than its predecessor with a glass finish at the back. The phone is very comfortable to hold and one hand use is also good.

Though the back looks good with a sea blue tinge, it attracts a lot of fingerprints. The 5.2-inch IPS LCD display comes with Gorilla Glass 3 protection. It’s a full HD display and outputs very good colours. Reading text is also very comfortable on the screen.

Performance & Storage

The phone runs on a mid-tier Snapdragon 630 octa-core processor coupled with 6GB RAM. Yes, 6GB RAM!

Moto has been generous enough to offer the device with Android Oreo 8.0. The performance is smooth and I didn’t encounter any lags.

The Moto X4 comes with 64GB internal storage which is expandable up to 256GB via microSD card.

Camera & Battery

A dual camera is a standard offering in phones these days and Moto is following suit with the X4 by offering a dual 12+8 megapixel rear camera. Not only does the phone provide good clicks but also is equipped with great video recording capabilities.

The front sports a 16-megapixel camera with an LED flash. Also, a good snapper.

Powering this device is a 3,000 mAh non-removable battery that supports fast charging via a Type-C port.

Initial Verdict

The Moto X4 has been beefed up with better specs this time around like the 6GB RAM and the dual rear camera. I like the overall package and feel that this phone will hit the competitors hard.

A price of Rs 24,999 for the Moto X4 might not be that aggressive but is enough to keep the competitors worried. What I feel is the only missing aspect that makes it a complete phone is a 16:9 display and that really would have set the phone right up there.
