A convincing win for the Indian!

Sumit Also Bites the Dust

Not a great Day 7 for the Indian contingent. After Karan and Sushil Kumar, Sumit is the new addition to the list of casualties.

In the 125kg, reigning Commonwealth Games champion Sumit Malik lost 0-2 to two-time European Championships medallist Daniel Ligeti of Hungary.

Hardly any fight from Sumit. The two points conceded were due to passivity.

Again, like Karan and Sushil, Sumit too has a chance to make a comeback if Daniel Ligeti reaches the final in 125kg category.

Sushil Kumar Loses in Qualification

India’s Sushil Kumar loses his first-round bout 9-11 against Khadzhimurad Gadzhiyev in the 74kg category.

Sushil had a five point lead at the break but Gadzhiyev made a remarkable comeback scoring six points in the first two minutes of the second round.

The Uzbek finished the bout with another point to win 11-9. Sushil Kumar was out of breath and looked tired as Gadzhiyev was declared the winner.

The only way Sushil can now book a Olympic berth is if Gadzhiyev reaches the final. The Indian will then get a shot in the repechage round.

Good Lead For Sushil

After going 0-2 in the early in the bout, Sushil Kumar made a good comeback with two 4-point takedowns. But Gadzhiyev also managed two takedowns in the first three minutes.

Sushil Kumar's Bout Coming up

Karan Fails to go Past Qualification

Karan lost 0-7 to Ikhtiyor Navruzov of Uzbekistan in his first round qualification in the 70kg category.

The Indian never looked to be in control. After trailing 0-3 in the first round, Karan suffered the same fate in the second round. He got another penalty for passivity.

But Karan still has opportunity to finish on the podium only if Navruzov reaches the final in the 70kg event. Karan will then fight in the repechage round.

Karan Trailing After Round 1

Karan Mor kicked off India’s campaign on Day 7 of the competition. But Karan didn’t have a great start, giving away 1 point to his opponent from Uzbekistan due to passivity.

Preferring to defend, Karan was 0-3 down after Ikhtiyor Navruzov managed a take down in the last few seconds at the end of first three minutes.

Karan Mor up Next

India’s Karan Mor will take on Ikhtiyor Navruzov of Uzbekistan in his first round qualification in the 70kg category.
