Marsh Out of WC with Fractured Arm, Glenn Maxwell Sent for Scans

Glenn Maxwell was also hit on the forearm however, he has been cleared of serious damage.

Ahead of Australia's final group stage game against South Africa in the on-going edition of ICC World Cup, batsman Shaun Marsh on Thursday, 4 July suffered fractured forearm during a net session at Old Trafford.

Due to this, Marsh has been ruled out of the World Cup and is replaced by wicket-keeper batsman, Peter Handscomb.

According to a statement by ICC, the 35-year-old was struck by a ball in Australia's net session. "He was rushed to the hospital thereafter, where a fracture was detected, thus ruling him out of the tournament," the statement said.

Australian head coach, Justin Langer in the statement said this was a “shattering news for Shaun and the squad.”

"Throughout this tournament, Marsh's spirit, professionalism and the way he has competed has been typically outstanding," Langer added.

Glenn Maxwell Hit, Coach Says All Okay

Meanwhile, all-rounder Glenn Maxwell was also hit on the forearm by a Mitchell Starc during the practice session. However, Maxwell has been cleared of serious damage, ICC statement read.

“The scans have cleared Glenn of any serious damage and we’ll continue to monitor him over the coming days,” informed Langer. “We are hopeful he will be fit to perform for us on 6 July against South Africa.”

Australia, who are leading the World Cup standings with 14 points, have already sealed a semi-final spot.
