Despite serving their one-year ban after the ball-tampering scandal, Australian Steve Smith and David Warner continue to face the wrath of the fans at the ongoing World Cup in England and Wales.

It was no different on Sunday at The Oval when Australia were playing against India. The duo were constantly booed by the Indian contingent in the crowd.

Steve Smith who was fielding at the deep near the boundary line at the Vauxhall end was continuously booed at. One of the fans even called him a ‘cheater’.

Virat Kohli, who was at crease at the moment, took notice of the incident and immediately sprang into action.

What can be called an epitome of sportsman spirit, Kohli turned to that stand and gestured at the crowd not to boo at Smith. Instead, he signalled them to clap for Steve Smith. Later, Smith was seen thanking Kohli for his gesture.

With this gesture, Kohli won heart of cricket fans all over the world. Generally known for his competitiveness, Kohli’s concern for the fellow Australian cricketer shows how much maturity Kohli has attained as a sportsman.
