Team India stormed into the semifinals of World 2019 with a comprehensive 7-wicket win over Sri Lanka in the penultimate league-stage fixture of the competition. On Saturday, India restricted Sri Lanka to 264-7 and then chased down the target in 43.3 overs.

The opening pair of Rohit Sharma and KL Rahul powered the win; both batsmen scored hundreds & stitched together a record partnership. Here's a recap of all the big stats from the match:

KL Rahul and Rohit Sharma became the first opening pair to post partnerships of 150 runs or more in consecutive World Cup matches. They followed up their 180-run stand against Bangladesh with a 189-run partnership against Sri Lanka.

Rahul and Rohit's partnership against Sri Lanka on Saturday would become India's highest opening stand in World Cup matches.

With their 189-run stand on Saturday, Rahul and Rohit also set a new record for the most runs added by an Indian pair in a particular World Cup.

Rohit Sharma's 103 would be his:

  • 3rd consecutive 100 in World Cup matches,
  • 5th hundred in the World Cup 2019; he became the first player to score 5 hundreds in a World Cup event,
  • 6th hundred in World Cups overall,
  • 6th hundred against Sri Lanka in ODIs,
  • 7th hundred in ODIs in England,
  • 25th hundred as opener in ODIs,27th hundred in ODIs overall

Rohit Sharma joined Sachin Tendulkar at the top of the list of most 100s in World Cup matches.

With his 103 against Sri Lanka on Saturday, Rohit Sharma took his aggregate of runs in World Cup 2019 to 647 runs - at least momentarily topping the competition's run-getters list.

With Rahul also carrying on to get a 100, India's innings became only the third instance in World Cup history of both opening batsmen scoring hundreds in the same innings. The only other pair to accomplish that feat was the Sri Lankan opening pair of Upul Tharanga and Tillakaratne Dilshan, who both scored hundreds against Zimbabwe and England in the 2011 World Cup.

When Jasprit Bumrah dismissed Dimuth Karunaratne, he completed 100 wickets in ODIs; he became the second-fastest Indian bowler (after Mohammed Shami) to reach the milestone.

After the stumping of Kusal Mendis, Ravindra Jadeja and MS Dhoni became India's most successful bowler-fielder combine in ODIs; Dhoni has been behind the stumps for 29 of Jadeja's wickets in ODIs.
