Yuzvendra Chahal had a forgettable outing against England as he was hit all-around the park for 88 runs in his 10 overs.

In the process, he became the most expensive Indian bowler in World Cup history. He broke Javagal Srinath’s 16-year-old record where he gave 87 runs in his 10 overs against Australia in the final of the 2003 ICC World Cup in South Africa.

At the end of his spell, Chahal’s bowling figure read 10-0-88-0.

Sensing the weakness of the English opening pair of Jason Roy and Jonny Bairstow against leg spin, Indian skipper Virat Kohli introduced Yuzvendra Chahal as early as the sixth over.

But Roy and Bairstow, who had a subdued approach towards Jasprit Bumrah and Mohammad Shami, started targeting Chahal in the first over itself. He went onto bowl two overs in the first Power Play and conceded 16 runs.

Chahal was brought back in the 12th over but Bairstow continued attacking him. The opener hit him for four sixes in his next four overs. The leg-spinner ended up giving 35 runs in his second spell.

After Bairstow’s dismissal, Chahal was brought back but hardly had any success. After Bairstow, Ben Stokes took a liking towards him as he started smashing him all through out the park. Stokes was comfortable hitting Chahal with the turn as well against it.

Chahal finished with 37 runs in his last spell.

Not only Chahal, the other spinner in the side Kuldeep Yadav also had an off-day, conceding 72 runs in his 10 overs. The only consolation for Kuldeep was the wicket of Jason Roy.
