The Board of Control for Cricket in India has officially confirmed that Gautam Gambhir is set to make a comeback to the Indian dressing room after two long years.
In the official statement, the BCCI medical team declared that KL Rahul’s hamstring injury has ruled him out of the remainder of the Paytm Test series against New Zealand and the Delhi opener has been called up to replace him for the next two Test matches.
There was another switch in the squad with Ishant Sharma too staying out of the dressing room in Kolkata due to chikungunya. Off spinner Jayant Yadav has been called up to take his spot in the team.
India lead the three test series 1-0 with the second match starting on Friday in Kolkata.
Despite being constantly overlooked for selection, Gambhir has continued to toil it out in domestic cricket. In the recently concluded Duleep Trophy, he hit four back-to-back half-centuries including two 90 plus scores.
However, when he was not picked for the Indian team for the New Zealand series, The Quint had caught up with the ace opener. Unfazed by yet another miss, Gambhir had said he would stay positive and continue to do his best.
“Yes, I do hope to play for India again. I do put in a lot of hard work. Selection, non-selection I dont think too much about.”
