India’s new kid in the block, Pawan Negi has been sold to the Delhi Daredevils for a whopping Rs 8.5 crore. He is the second highest buy in the 2016 IPL auctions, just under Shane Watson.
Negi, who was recently selected for the Asia Cup and T20 World Cup has been given the biggest surprise of his life.
The 23-year-old has not shone in a big way in the IPL so far, therefore it was very surprising to see Delhi buying the left-arm spinner for a heavy price. Negi has taken 13 wickets in 21 IPL matches.
Though, he has performed well in domestic cricket last season. Negi has taken six wickets in nine T20 matches.
Another shocking purchase by the Delhi team was the uncapped Karnataka player, Karun Nair, who was sold for Rs 4 crore. Hyderabad and Delhi got into a battle to acquire the first-class player, whose base price was 10 lakhs.
It was very surprising to see Hyderabad and Delhi go the distance for Nair, as he is terribly out of form and has only performed well in patches in the IPL so far. Nair’s scores in the last five first-class matches are 2, 4, 12, 16 and 18. Looks like the team management of the Delhi and Hyderabad haven’t done their homework. They just kept bidding and bidding for the Karnataka lad.
The 24-year-old played for the Royal Challengers Bangalore in the 2012 IPL and moved to Rajasthan Royals in 2014. Nair has scored 520 runs at an average of 22.6 in his IPL career.
