Pulido was found on 30 May by the police, after he punched a kidnapper guarding him, snatched a cell phone and informed the authorities of his location.

The police had already detained a captor, one of at least four involved, on 30 May, from whom they got the information about 29-year-old Osvaldo Velazques Garcia, the husband of Alan Pulido’s cousin.

The police got into a gun battle when they went to confront Garcia at a house in Ciudad Victoria in Tamaulipas, injuring and capturing Garcia in the process.

Garcia allegedly planned the whole kidnapping and belongs to a gang.

Pulido was a member of the Mexican national team that went to the 2014 World Cup in Brazil.
