The Delhi Capitals finally gave their home fans something to cheer as they defeated Kings XI Punjab by five wickets at the Feroz Shah Kotla on Saturday, 20 April. The franchise registered a win at home after they’d lost three of their four home games in the 12th edition of the Indian Premier League.

Skipper Shreyas Iyer (58*) and Shikhar Dhawan (56) took Delhi to their sixth win in 10 games. DC are now third in the IPL table, only behind Chennai Super Kings and Mumbai Indians.

After winning the toss and putting in Kings XI Punjab to bat, the hosts restricted the fourth placed side to 163/7 in 20 overs. Chris Gayle (69 off 37) and Mandeep Singh (30 off 27) took the attack to a firing Delhi Capitals’ bowling attack.

Chasing 164, Delhi lost Prithvi Shaw (13) early as he was run out, thanks to a brilliant direct throw from Mandeep Singh. It was then that Shikhar Dhawan added 92 for the second wicket with the skipper Shreyas Iyer, before falling to Hardus Viljoen in the 14th over.

Punjab then tried to chart a comeback, but it was too late as the 24-year old DC skipper finished the game with two balls left.

With this win Delhi now share the same points as MI, trailing behind only on net run rate. Here’s how the cricket fraternity and fans reacted to Delhi’s win.
