India’s dry run at Rio has finally come to an end. Sakshi Malik, hailing from Haryana, bagged the first medal for India, a bronze, in the 58 kg freestyle category on Thursday.

For the girl whose Olympic dream started from wanting to sit on a plane, look at where her fight got her. Sakshi’s family watched her on TV from Rohtak. When her win was declared Sakshi’s mom jumped up to kiss her daughter on TV screen.

“No sister can give her brother what Sakshi has given me,” beamed Sakshi’s proud brother and coincidentally, today is also Rakshabandhan, a festival that celebrates the bond of a brother and sister.
