India got their 2019 ICC World Cup campaign off to a winning start at the Rose Bowl in Southampton as they beat South Africa by 6 wickets.

Rohit Sharma scored an unbeaten 122 to star for India with the bat as he got help from MS Dhoni (34), KL Rahul (26). While Rohit carried his bat through the innings, Hardik Pandya hit the winning runs for India in the 48th over.

Earlier, in the day, Yuzvendra Chahal was India’s top bowler as his 4/51 helped limit South Africa to 227/9. None of the batsmen were able to get going, as the Proteas seemed under pressure right from the start.

While India got off to a winning start, South Africa have now succumbed to their third straight defeat in as many matches with their World Cup campaign now in danger of an early exit.

However, Twitter was more than happy with the Indian victory and they celebrated with posts for Virat’s team.
