The Indian team management decided to drop Mohammad Shami for the all important semi-final clash against New Zealand at Old Trafford in Manchester on Tuesday, 9 July. This happened after Shami picked up 14 wickets from just 4 games including a hat-trick against Afghanistan, a spell which helped India win the game.
As far as the rest of the Indian team is concerned, Dinesh Karthik and Ravindra Jadeja managed to retain their spot in the semi-final after playing against Sri Lanka. New Zealand won the toss and elected to bat first.
