Indian cricketer Harbhajan Singh lashed out at former Australian captain Adam Gilchrist on Wednesday, 4 September, over a tweet on the former’s hat-trick.

The 39-year-old spinner had become India's first-ever hat-trick man in Test cricket in 2001, getting the wickets of Australian batsmen Ricky Ponting, Adam Gilchrist and Shane Warne off three successive deliveries. He finished with figures of 7/123, starring in India's epic 171-run win by taking another six wickets in the second essay at Eden Gardens in the historic Kolkata Test.

Gilchrist was the second man to be dismissed leg before wicket, but replays showed the ball was hitting his bat first.

Replying to a clip of the hat-trick, the Aussie wicketkeeper-batsman wrote ‘No DRS’, referring to the reviewal system that did not exist when Harbhajan took that hat-trick.

Harbhajan Singh would have none of it.

“You think you would have survived for long if not first ball? Stop crying over these things mate.. thought you would talk sense after ur playing days.. but few things never change. You are the prime example of that. Always crying,” wrote Singh.

Pacer Jasprit Bumrah on Saturday, 31 August, became the third Indian bowler to claim a hat-trick in Test cricket after Harbhajan and Irfan Pathan. Bumrah achieved the feat in his fourth over to reduce the hosts to 13/4. His hat-trick included the wickets of Darren Bravo, Shamarh Brooks and Roston Chase.
