It was an easy 8-wicket win for England against West Indies in Southampton courtesy Joe Root’s unbeaten 100. This was the hosts’ third win in four games at the World Cup so far and they also have jumped upto the second position in the points table.

Root’s second ton at the ongoing World Cup came on a day when two of England’s key batsmen – Jason Roy and Eoin Morgan – were injured and couldn’t have taken the field to bat. Root formed two crucial partnerships, first with Jonny Bairstow (45) off 95 runs and the second with Chris Woakes (40) off 104 runs as he prepared the platform for an England victory.

He was initially tested by short-pitched deliveries by the Windies bowlers but he weathered the storm and carved out a brilliant knock. Earlier, Jofra Archer and Mark Wood’s disciplined bowling saw Windies being bowled out for a mere 212 which was never enough to challenge the formidable England batting line up.

Amidst their wishes for England’s victory, Twitterverse had a special mention for Joe Root. Here’s how they congratulated Root for taking England over the line.
