Five-time champions Australia became the first team to qualify for the semi-finals of the 2019 World Cup after their 64-run win over England at Lord’s on Tuesday, 25 June. This is the host’s second straight loss after they suffered a 20-run loss against Sri Lanka.

England remain at the fourth spot with this loss, while defending champions Australia moved to the top of the points table with six wins giving them 12 points. Aaron Finch played a captain’s innings as he scored 100 off 116 balls which helped the Aussies reach 285/7 after their 50 overs.

Jason Behrendorff then took his maiden ODI fifer as Australia bowled out England for 221. While Australia is growing stronger as a team with their advancement into the last four, England have found themselves in a spot of bother.

England have two tough matches coming up against India and New Zealand respectively as they find themselves in a must-win situation suddenly.

Meanwhile, Twitter congratulated the Australian team for becoming the first team to make it to the semis. Here’s how they responded after Australia’s win over England.
