Defending champions Sania Mirza and Martina Hingis crashed out of the WTA Finals after losing 6-3, 2-6, 6-10 in the semifinal to Ekaterina Makarova and Elena Vesnina in Singapore on Saturday.
Makarova and Vesnina will take on Bethanie Mattek-Sands and Lucie Safarova in the summit clash. Bethanie and Lucie took down top seeds Caroline Garcia and Kristina Mladenovic 6-3, 7-5 in the other semi-final.
The Indo-Swiss pair won the first set comfortably but their opponents fought back and took the second set 6-2 with ease.
In the super tie-break, the Russians quickly took a lead of 7-4. Mirza and Hingis reduced the difference to 6-8, but thereafter the Russians picked up two points and wrapped up the match.
Mirza and Hingis played their first tournament together since they split at Montreal in July.
