The world number twelve team Indian women’s hockey side beat the world number four team Australia 1-0 in the first Test at Melbourne on Wednesday. India, who lost 6-1 to Australia in the Rio Olympics, have travelled down under to play three Test matches.

Captain Rani Rampal scored the lone goal of the match in the second quarter to set up a historic win for India. Rampal found the back of the net in the 21st minute through a penalty corner. This is the first time the Indian eves have beaten the Aussies.

The Indians played a very aggressive game while attacking and defending during the match.

While India's defenders were rock solid, the goalkeeper Rajani Etimmarpu carried out some brilliant saves in the Test to keep the Australians at bay.

The second and third Test will be played on 25 November and 27 November respectively.
